On a dark dark night,
In a dark dark Alley
In a dark dark RRV
Lay a tired tired ambulance bloke.
Actually a job came through ? cardiac arrest……….
Brilliant its late O’clock on Halloween, I am heading towards a particularly dark, wooded remote part of my patch. As I near the address the mist starts descending, the night is clear the moon is out, you can see your breath. (not particularly happy about being here).
I eventually find the house, all is in darkness “HA HA” I nervously think to myself as I walk up the crunchy driveway (hope that’s gravel and not bones). Â Its amazing what the human mind does to itself. Goosebumps on my arms, The hairs on the back of my neck are raised, if I hooked the defib to myself I am sure my pulse would have registered at a cool 160bpm.
I knock on the door……NO ANSWER so I try again KNOCK KNOCK………. NO ANSWER, I get onto control just as my radio BLARES into life the door opens slowly……………………… My heart rate shoots up even more.
There stood in the dark hallway is a very scary (psychotic looking) figure of humanity. He points into a dark room “she’s there, she’s under there” he says pointing to a very small, very LOW table in a disheveled living room. Scared! yes I was. Way out of my normal patch, on my own with a psychotic chap telling me in this dark, cold, Amityville horror type house there is a dead body under a table that is lower than a formula 1 cars chassis.
A slow and tactical back out (hand FIRMLY on the emergency button) I shouted control on the radio to ask for an ETA on the ambulance “They are just pulling up now” Â Phew! I thought. Eventually the crew pull up, and I explain what was happening.
Yes I may have been scared! I do believe I was justified but you know what I LOVE HALLOWEEN
