So, here I am, in week 3 of my Secondment, and it’s probably time to introduce myself.  My name is Ray Southam, and I am a full time employee of the John Lewis Partnership. Around August 2010 I was offered an amazing opportunity to come and work with HIOWAA through a scheme the Partnership has in place called the Golden Jubilee Trust, which allows a Partner to go and work for a charity for an agreed amount of time, paid for by the John Lewis Partnership. The Golden Jubilee Trust is very competitive and awards 40 – 50 secondments nationwide a year. I was one of the lucky ones!
Start date agreed, 2nd May 2011, 4 days a week for 6 months – Time flew by and suddenly, here I am...
So, Week One – I remember it being a little mad in the office with preperations for the Mad Hatters Spring Ball. There was a white rabbit standing in the corner, I’m sure he kept looking at me! Tea Pots, costumes, props, empty bottles – you name it, I’m sure it was there somewhere. I was amazed by the amount of detail that went into the evening to make it as special as it was. Then there’s the generosity from everybody who contributed in some way or another, it was fantastic to see how obliging everyone was. If you went to the Ball I am sure you will agree that it was a very magical evening that reflected the theme to the max. The Chair-how fantabulous was that chair!
Week Two – The clear up operation!!!! As you can imagine with such a successful event, there is going to be a lot to do after!! So it was time to return the props, return the helium, drop of the mannequins, return anything else that didn’t belong to us, thank everyone for their involvement and importantly keep the cups of tea flowing.  Towards the end of the week the office started to look like an office again and things are slowing looking less hectic, well at least for now, I sure it won’t be long before all that changes. Oh, and that white rabbit, he’s still here, still looking at me – Me and him – Friends for life!!
I am on day 1 of week 3 whilst writing this so not much of an update for this week at the moment. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sherie, John, Kirsty, Catherine, Phil, Roger and everyone else I have made contact with over the past couple of weeks, for welcoming me into their team and making me feel at ease immediately. I also have to thank John Lewis for giving me such an amazing opportunity.
So until the next time..... Ta Ta
