What: Protest of the Trade Union Bill
Where: Parliament Square, Westminster
When: 6pm, Monday 14 September 2015
The Tories’ Trade Union Bill has its second reading in Parliament this coming Monday and the labour movement will be out in force to demonstrate against the draconian anti-union legislation.
This bill would introduce a whole raft of measures aimed at restricting the ability of trade unions to represent and campaign on behalf of their members. Proposals include increased voting thresholds that would mean in some circumstances 80 per cent of members would have to vote yes for industrial action.
Other proposals include restrictions on picketing and on how trade unions collect and spend money. You can watch a video of Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, discussing the bill here.
The demonstration will be followed by a public meeting in Parliament. Speakers at the meeting will include Labour MP’s John McDonnell, Chris Stephens, Ian Lavery as well as Ian Hodson, general secretary of the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union, (BFAWU) and Candy Udwin, Public and Commercial Services union (PCS) rep for workers in the National Gallery.
