A MAN was released from an overturned van on the
hard-shoulder of the M60 motorway this morning, between Junction 24
Denton and 23 Ashton.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) received a
call from the police just after 6.30am on Tuesday, September 18, to
say there was an overturned vehicle on the hard-shoulder with
someone trapped inside.
The 43-year-old man was released from the small van by fire
crews who had been sent from Ashton and Hyde fire stations.
Whilst the man was being released from the vehicle, there was a
secondary collision on the motorway - involving a further five
vehicles, resulting in two more fire crews, from Gorton, being
sent. This collision resulted in eight further casualties, one of
whom was assisted from their vehicle by paramedics and treated at
The 43-year-old man was given first aid by a fire service trauma
technician before being taken to a nearby hospital.
Traffic has been affected by delays this morning but conditions
are expected to return to normal later in the morning.
