THE GMFRS charity car wash has been postponed by a week
due to the severe weather conditions.
The difficult decision to postpone The Fire Fighters Charity car
wash was taken this morning (Friday, March 15) after seeing the way
the weather was looking today and the forecast for the rest of the
Firefighters, staff, volunteers and supporters of Greater
Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) were due to hold events
at most stations in the county this weekend.
Area Manager Geoff Harris said: "It's a really tough decision to
postpone at such short notice - especially when people have put so
much time and effort into an event which raises money for a good
cause - but it is just not practical to hold the car wash this
"Snow is already coming down heavily across most of the county
and conditions look set to remain terrible right across Saturday
"The reasons for putting it back a weekend are two-fold. Holding
the car wash in these conditions would create additional risks with
it already being very slippy and its unlikely we'll get the support
we hoped for as people will be unlikely to leave their homes in
It is also likely that many crews are going to be called on to
support their communities in coping with the adverse weather
conditions so it also makes sense to delay the car wash as Green
