MOSS SIDE Fire Station's Open Day on Saturday, June 11,
is a knockout event that will really pack a
The fun filled family day is open to the public between 11am and
6pm and features lots of fun activities for kids and adults alike,
but top of the bill is an amateur boxing show that is being held to
showcase the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Moss Side
gymnassium boxing club.
The boxing club which opened in 2007 to build links between the
Fire and Rescue Service and the community, is one of many ways
GMFRS actively engages young people to prevent attacks on
fire-fighters, reduce deliberate fires, educate on fire safety or
to assist other agencies in schemes they are running.
Borough Manager, Dave Keelan, said: "Open Days provide an
ideal occasion for the public to learn about some important fire
safety messages. The local fire crews are on hand to answer
any fire safety questions and arrange home fire safety visits, but
it is also a family fun day with lots of activities for all the
family to enjoy, including the Amateur Boxing Show. "
