VOLUNTEER services at Stockport's Stepping Hill Hospital
received a sparkling new office make-over last week, thanks to nine
young volunteers taking part in the Prince's Trust Team Programme
run by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
Voluntary services at the hospital perform a vital service, with
over 400 volunteers performing vital duties, including giving
patients directions and helping out at the hospital shops. Their
base is a temporary office which had been looking a little run-down
until the Prince's Trust stepped in.
The freshly refurbished property was officially handed back to
the hospital last Friday (October 28) under the watchful gaze of
Stockport Mayor, Councillor Les Jones.
Stockport NHS Foundation Trust Voluntary Services Manager, Sally
Cassini, said: "The Prince's Trust volunteers have made the
Hospital Voluntary Service base a lot more cheerful and
welcoming. They have all worked really hard and it has been a
pleasure to see them all work so well together. On behalf of all
the Volunteers who help at Stepping Hill Hospital, I wish to say a
big thank you."
Prince's Trust Team participant, Anthony Price, 21, from
Stockport, said: "It has been a fantastic project to be involved in
and it has been very enjoyable. It has brought out the team spirit
in the whole group and emphasised everyone's individual strengths
also I hope our purpose as a team is fulfilled and that the staff
and patients benefit from the transformation."
Charlie Brown, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's
Prince's Trust Team Leader, commented: "The young people on this
project have made a clear and noticeable difference. In just two
weeks they have planned and carried out this extensive work. The
hospital volunteers are delighted with the results and the
responsible manner in which the project group conducted
The volunteers are taking part in the Prince's Trust Team
programme, which is a 12-week programme that helps young people who
may have left education with few qualifications or who have been
out of employment for a length of time. The Trust puts their
talents to good use on excellent initiatives which benefit the
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service delivers this
programme for 16 - 25 year olds in partnership with the Prince's
Trust. Each Team enrolls up to 15 young people three times a
year in each of the current 6 locations of Bolton, Salford,
East-Manchester, Trafford, Wythenshawe and Stockport.
