OFFENDERS in Wigan are now taking part in day long courses with
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service as part of their
Community Pay Back Scheme.
Working in conjunction with the Probation Service, the idea is
that the day long courses will encourage community cohesion.
Offenders on the scheme are made to take part in a number of
drills and exercises as part of their rehabilitation.
Borough Manager Steve Sheridan said: "This course is by no means
an easy ride for those that do it but it was something that we
thought was important to do.
"In seeing the hard work and commitment that it takes to be a
firefighter we hope that these adults will go back to the areas
they live and tell their peers, because it is not just childrent
hat start fires and in incidents of attacks on fire crews it has
been adults who commit these crimes.
