WET weather didn't stop firefighters, staff and visitors
having a great day at Withington open day.
The station's doors were thrown open to the community and they
turned up in great numbers to meet the crews, community safety
staff and find out more about Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue
Retired firefighters gave visitors a brilliant insight into the
station and its history and gave tours and the on-duty firefighters
were excellent at showing how it all currently works.
Station Manager Dave Hughes said: "We had a great day despite
the rain and we were well-supported by current staff, firefighters
and volunteers as well as retired members.
"The station is 75 years old next year and already the retired
members want to come back and get involved in next year's
Withington Civic Trust provided cakes, refreshments, face
painting at the event on Sunday, June 3.
The diamond jubilee medal was presented to on duty fire fighters
by retired member Bob Wright.
