The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue propose to close Windsor fire station at night from as early as October 2011? That would leave a day crew operating from 08-00 hours to 20-00 hours leaving the vast station area vulnerable at night and subject to the Brigade hope that Slough fire crews are available and can then get to a Windsor incident in time.
But, there could be many more occasions when Windsor is left without cover. Why? All whole time stations throughout the county will be on a separate shift system for days: 09-00 to18-00 hours. So, if Windsor is short crewed as a result of sickness, leave or training courses, then replacements will only be available during the 09-00 hours to 18-00 hours period. Therefore between 08-00 and 09-00 hours, plus 18-00 and 20-00 hours, Windsor fire station may be off the run!
This represents even more of a diminishment of service for those people living in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead who have already experienced the closure of Cookham fire station.
