Until last August, the Helmand town of Sayedebad remained firmly under Taliban control. Operation Black Prince changed all this and the town is now free of all Insurgent activity. Clearing the town of Insurgents did not happen overnight though; the area saw months of fierce fighting as British forces wrestled control from the Taliban as they attempted to hold ground.
Eventually though, the balance of power tipped in favour of the British and the local population now feel safe enough to reopen their shops and local bazaar.
X-Ray Company are determined it stays that way. Checkpoints are springing up around the area and, in a major step towards a transition in security, these check points are manned by Afghan forces recruited from the local area, rather than by UK forces.
