I got a new phone for Christmas. it’s really great, I can do everything on it, even make phone calls.
I have this little app that can tell me to within about 20 yards where my phone is, it’s not that useful at the moment because the phone is usually in my pocket and, so far, I’ve always known where I am, but if it gets nicked it might come in handy.
It got me wondering that if this technology is so freely available, how come, when the police get the mobile phone companies to ping a phone for us because we thing the person who has it is lying in a field with a ton of asprin percolating in their stomach, they can only tell us that the phone may be within a half mile radius of a particular phone mast, a much larger area than my smart phone app?:
