Barnet officers are appealing for information following an assault in Sunny Hill Park, Hendon last week.
At 12:30hrs on Friday, 4 April a 25-year-old woman took her pet African Grey parrot for a walk and flight through Sunny Hill Park, NW4.
As the woman left the park, a man grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her to the ground with both hands.
At this point the parrot, named ‘Wunsy,’ flapped his wings and squawked, startling the suspect who then made off towards Great North Road, Hendon.
The woman and the parrot were unharmed by the assault and quickly called police.
The man is described as a white man, aged 25-35 years, with short blonde hair and wearing beige trousers and a dark black rucksack.
PC Chris Cutmore from Colindale Police Station said: “This was a random attack on a woman walking out of a park.
“Although the parrot Wunsy come to her rescue, we are obviously very keen to trace the suspect and prevent him from attacking anybody else.
“I would encourage anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has seen the man in the local area to call police on 101 quoting reference 2407517/14. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
