Can you help piece together the moments that led to gas canisters being left on the tracks in Liverpool?
That’s the question being posed by British Transport Police officers investigating an incident which saw a train hit two gas canisters on the line between Walton Junction and Kirkdale.
Sergeant Andy Talyor said: “Just before 6pm on Wednesday, 9 April, a Merseyrail train travelling from Ormskirk to Liverpool Central struck two canisters which had been placed on the tracks.
“As a result the train sustained significant damage to piping underneath the carriages and was disabled for some time.
“Thankfully no-one was hurt, but the incident caused almost two hours of delays.”
Officers are now calling on the public to help work out how the canisters came to be on the tracks.
Sgt Taylor added: “I am certain someone will know who is responsible for the canisters being on the tracks and I am calling on anyone with information to come forward.”
