West Mercia Police have confirmed that 13 more men and 3 women have now been charged as a result of the warrants that were executed early on Wednesday morning as part of an ongoing major drugs operation in Telford.
The 16 people charged overnight brings the total to 19 – 3 men were charged on Wednesday night and appeared in court yesterday – and the charges have come about after a huge team of officers executed Section 8 Warrants at a number of addresses in locations including Hadley, Leegomery, Wellington and Wolverhampton at just before 7.30am on Wednesday 14 May.
More than 200 police officers from across the alliance between West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police were involved in this operation and eventually 20 people were arrested on Wednesday – 16 men and 4 women – in total.
Of the 20 arrests, 19 individuals have now been charged while one female will face no further action.
In addition, a 38-year-old man was arrested early this morning as part of this operation and he is currently in custody awaiting questioning.
Speaking about the progress of the operation, Detective Inspector Gavin Kinrade said:
“It is pleasing that 19 people have now been charged in total and I can confirm that the 16 individuals charged overnight will be appearing at Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning.
“Although we are satisfied with how the operation has gone we still have a huge amount of work to do and a significant number of officers will continue to work on this investigation.
“I’d like to thank the team involved for the hard work and professionalism they have shown so far, while I’d also like to thank the National Crime Agency (NCA) and our local partners from Telford & Wrekin Council and the Wrekin Housing Trust for all the support they have given us too.â€
