A suspected drug dealer has been arrested in Shrewsbury following a tip-off from a member of the public.
The 28-year-old man was arrested at around 6.30pm last night (19thÂ May) on The Dana, near the former prison.
Officers carried out a stop search and found he had a lock knife.Â A search of the immediate area, involving a police dog, located a bagged substance believed to be crack cocaine.
The manâ€™s mobile phone and more than Â£1,800 he was carrying were confiscated.
He remains in custody at Shrewsbury police station on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and possessing suspected Class A controlled drugs with intent to supply.
Detective Inspector Jon Matthews said: â€œArresting people who supply drugs within our communities continues to be one of our priorities.
â€œThis arrest followed information given by a member of the public and we urge others to follow their example if they see anything they suspect might be drug-related.Â Call the police on 101 immediately if you see anything suspicious.â€
