A Wolverhampton pub doorman is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the early hours of this morning (Saturday 7 June).
Police were called to the Harp Inn on Walsall Street at around 2:45am and found the 38-year-old with a knife wound to his body.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital, where he currently remains in a critical condition.
The area has been cordoned off by detectives who are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as soon as possible.
Detective Inspector Ian Iliffe is leading the inquiry and is keen to identify one person in particular as part of the investigation.
He said: “We know that there was a black man with a fair complexion, aged in his mid-30s, who was around at the time of the attack.
“He was wearing a long-sleeved dark coloured top and possibly a dark coloured hat and I believe he could have crucial information about what happened.
“Officers were met with a highly-charged scene when they arrived in the early hours of this morning and there were a large number of people gathered at the venue.
“It’s important we speak to as many of these individuals as possible if we are to ensure the person responsible is swiftly arrested.â€
Police are forensically examining the scene today and are trawling CCTV footage as well as speaking to witnesses.
No arrests have yet been made.
Anyone with information which could assist police is asked to call Force CID on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
