It happened at about 2.15pm on Friday the 18 July 2014 at a block of flats on Egerton Street in Patricroft, Salford where it was reported that a man had attempted to abduct a three-year-old girl.
The man was described as being of eastern European appearance, around 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and with black, short but tightly curled hair. He was described as wearing a red and white baseball cap, red jacket and red trainers.
He had lifted the young girl over the fence of a garden and was attempting to walk off with the toddler.
The girl’s mum immediately challenged him and he quickly left the area. The girl was not physically injured in any way.
Officers were called to the scene and patrols quickly deployed to the area to try and find the man but there was no trace of him.
Detective Inspector Benjamin Hart from Salford division, said: â€œThis man approached a young child who was playing in a busy residential area on a sunny afternoon.
â€œWe do not know what this manâ€™s intentions were, but nevertheless are very concerned about this incident and we have launched a criminal investigation led by a team of experienced detectives.
â€œWe are appealing to any possible witnesses to come forward and assist our investigation. If anyone saw a man matching this description around this area of Salford on Friday the 18 July or knows someone who fits this description and was likely to have been in or around this area, we are keen to speak to you so that we can identify or eliminate individuals from the inquiry.
â€œI understand that this incident will cause a lot of concern in the community and would therefore like to reassure residents that all patrolling officers have been given a detailed description of this man, and we will do all we can to address concerns and, more importantly, find the man responsible.â€
