Police are appealing for information after a mobility scooter was stolen in South Tyneside.
It happened between 9.30pm and 10pm on Thursday, July 10, when the scooter was briefly left outside Sainsburys at Station Terrace in East Boldon.
When the owner – a woman aged in her 60s – returned the scooter had been stolen. It’s a burgundy Shoprider mobility scooter with a grey seat and a wicker basket on the front.
Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Hudson said: “The scooter is extremely important to the owner as she suffers from a number of medical conditions which make it difficult for her to get around.
“It gives her independence and makes life easier for her and we’re appealing for help to trace the whereabouts of the scooter and return it to her.”
Anyone who witnessed the theft or has information about the whereabouts of the scooter or the person responsible is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 369 11/07/14, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
The appeal comes during Northumbria Police’s Operation Soundwave, aimed at tackling opportunist thieves and burglars across the force.
