Ian Michael Jones, 42, from Garden Lane, Chester was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday 28 July at Chester Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to robbery.
At 3.10pm on Wednesday 21 May 2014, police were called to a report of an armed robbery at a premises on the campus of theÂ UniversityÂ ofÂ ChesterÂ in Parkgate Road,Â Chester.Â
Jones entered the premises, armed with a knife where he grabbed a female customer, and threatened her, demanding cash from staff.
The staff handed over cash to Jones who then fled on foot.
DS Debbie Bellis, from Chester CID said, “Todayâ€™s court result reflects the seriousness of Jonesâ€™ crime and the impact it has had on his victim. Robberies such as this are rare in Cheshire and we hope that the result serves as a warning to other would-be robbers.
Todayâ€™s result serves a reminder to any other offenders that if you choose to break the law you will be actively targeted, caught and punished.”
