A 17-year-old Sutton youth has been arrested for making a bomb hoax call which mobilised police on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, USA.
The male youth called police on 999 on Monday, 4 August at 00:38hrs stating that there was a bomb underneath a taxi parked outside the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard South.
The Met’s Central Communications Command passed the call to the Las Vegas Police Department, who dispatched officers to the scene.
Whilst officers in the USA were checking vehicles outside the hotel, Met officers in Sutton had traced the owner of the phone.
These enquiries led Sutton response officers to an address in the borough where a youth was arrested at 01:38hrs – exactly one hour after the 999 call had been made.
The youth, who was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax call, has been bailed to later in the month.
