A woman has been arrested following the death of a baby in Oldham.
At 5.20am on Friday 15 August 2014, police were called to Lychgate Court, Oldham by the North West Ambulance Service, who had been called after a baby, who is just a few weeks old, was found unresponsive.
The baby was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
A 55-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing a death to a child by overlaying.
She remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Dave Moores, said: â€œThis is an absolutely tragic case in which a baby who is barely three weeks old has died.
â€œAny death of a baby is always extremely upsetting and keenly felt by family members and even the wider community.
â€œAn investigation is underway and we are committed to identifying how and why this baby died.
â€œWe also have officers supporting family members at what is clearly a very distressing time for them.â€
