In May 2012 the local community in Maulds Meaburn reported suspicious activity taking place at a local property in the area. The police executed a warrant on 16th  May 2012 and the remains of a large cannabis factory was discovered.
The owner of the property had rented it out to people who he believed were going to renovate the building. It took over two days for the police to seize evidence and make the property safe.
Detectives have been investigating this criminal activity to establish who was involved. Their enquiries led to suspects in south England and six men have now been charged and will all appear at Carlisle Magistrates Court.
Detective Sergeant Paddy McDonnell said: “This was a thorough investigation by the North Cumbria Drug Squad which resulted in six people being charged in connection with drug offences who will now appear in court. We thank the local community for reporting the suspicious activity in the first place.â€
