At Glasgow High Court on 30 September 2014, Robert McKinlay (50) was sentenced for the rapes and assaults of women that he had previously been in relationships with.
This follows an investigation by the Greater Glasgow Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit which took place following a domestic incident reported in October 2011. The investigation identified a further three previous partners spanning 26 years, all of whom had been subjected to violence and sexual assaults throughout their relationships with Robert McKinlay.
On 26 March 2014 Robert McKinlay was found guilty at Glasgow High Court of three counts of Rape, three counts of Section 1 SOSA 2009 (Rape), Assault to Injury and Assault and Abduction. On 30 September 2014, an order of lifelong restriction was imposed and he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment.
Detective Inspector Gillian Patrick from the Greater Glasgow Domestic Abuse Unit stated: “Robert McKinlay is a serial perpetrator of domestic abuse. He has caused irreversible damage to those in his life across 26 years and we welcome this verdict.”
“If you are experiencing domestic abuse there is a wide range of support available by Police Scotland and other agencies. We recognise that everyone has different circumstances however no one should tolerate domestic abuse in any shape or form.”
