Bedfordshire Police launch their new Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit today (20 October) to ensure that those involved in domestic abuse and violeare protected and the perpetrators brought to justice.
Tackling domestic abuse is a Bedfordshire Police Force Priority and the new team, part of the Public Protection Unit, is led by Inspector Aaron Kiff who leads a team of 36 officers.
Inspector Kiff said: “Bedfordshire Polices’ purpose is to fight crime and protect the public and safeguarding individuals and communities is everyone in the Force’s responsibility. Domestic abuse is a priority that we take incredibly seriously and deal promptly and positively with any domestic incident that we attend. Domestic abuse is not the victim’s fault and they should know they are not alone.
“As well as the Police there are many people and organisations that can help and protect those in an abusive situation so they feel safe. Wherever possible, we will take positive action and protect victims from further abuse.
“The Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit provides expertise around all aspects of dealing with reported incidents and supporting individuals and families to ensure that the full range of possible outcomes is available to them and that everything possible is done to bring abusers to justice.
“We also help create robust safety plans with victims to make them feel free from fear and intimidation. We work closely with partners such as Victim Support, Housing and National organisations providing help, advice and safe places to go,
There is plenty of online help for those suffering domestic abuse on the Bedfordshire Police website www.bedfordshire.police.uk . As well as contacts and resources the site includes advice on how to delete your browsing history so any abuser cannot find out what you’ve been doing.
