|A lorry driver has been arrested after driving the wrong way along a dual carriageway in Willenhall, whilst believed to be drunk, in the early hours of the morning.
Police on patrol saw the HGV travelling away from the M6 on the Black Country Route, on the wrong carriageway, at around 2.20am today (24 November).
Officers quickly moved to block the road and stop the vehicle on the westbound carriageway. The driver appeared drunk and officers detained him on suspicion of drink driving.
Once in police custody the 35-year-old blew more than three times the drink drive limit.
Inspector Greg Jennings, from West Midlands Police Traffic Unit, said: “Drink driving is dangerous no matter how far over the limit you are and what vehicle you are in charge of.
“That said, the circumstances of this particular incident could have been extremely serious had it been a busier time of day or if other vehicles had been innocently travelling along the dual carriageway.
“Thankfully no one was hurt and the driver is now in custody, arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink.”
The national seasonal campaign to tackle drink driving will be launched at the start of December in a bid to combat the rise of such offences over the festive period.
