Shortly before 22:00hrs on Tuesday, 25 November officers from Lambeth police conducted an arrest enquiry at an address in Hercules Road, SE1.
The male occupant, aged in his mid-40s, refused to allow officers into the premises.
The officers requested further assistance from colleagues and entry was subsequently forced.
Officers then discovered a man lying on the ground below an open third floor window.
They immediately administered first aid and called the London Ambulance Service.
The man was taken to a south London hospital suffering from serious injuries. He died at 01:26hrs.
Next of kin has been informed but we await formal identification.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Police Complaints Commission attended the scene. The matter has been referred to the IPCC.
