A man whose girlfriend jumped out of a window to escape what a judge at Manchester Crown Court described as a “sustained beating†and “disgusting behaviour†has been jailed for 2 years.
Luke Gillman 21, was jailed after admitting Section 18 wounding, Criminal Damage and Section 47 assault.
Gilman came home drunk and demanded to know his girlfriend’s movements, at some point he slapped her in the face, when the victim said that she was going to her parents’ house Gillman locked the door and continue to abuse and assault the victim.
During a 999 call she could be heard begging him not to hit her pleading went unanswered and he punched her in the right eye causing a fractured eye socket.
Counsel for Gilman told the court that he has had to move wings in prison as he is being bullied and had things stolen from him, and that he was remorseful for what he has done and that this was supported by the probation service who said that prison and had been a salutary experience for him.
The judge told him that the case was so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence could be justified to which Gillman appeared to nod in agreement, his mother who was sat in the public gallery said “oh my god” and as he was sentenced she put her hands over her face.
He was also given a 10yr restraining order.
He will serve half his sentence.
