A 23-year-old man from Reading has been sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of rape and false imprisonment.
Marius Pelaitis, of Connaught Close, Reading, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday (19/12) for two counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment. He pleaded guilty at the same court earlier this year.
At around 10pm on 3 September 2013, Pelaitis and another man, Edgaras Vanagelis, approached a 32-year-old woman in Oxford Road, Reading, and took her to an address in Waverley Road.
They then subjected her to a prolonged attack, in which she was physically beaten, made to urinate in a bucket and was raped. The attack lasted around two hours.
The victim was left with visible facial injuries, including loose teeth, and extreme post-traumatic stress.
Vanagelis was sentenced to 13-and-a-half years’ imprisonment on 1 December this year, after being convicted of two counts of rape and one count of false imprisonment on 24 October this year.
Investigating officer Det Con James Kyriacopoulos from Reading Force CID said: “I want to thank the victim for her bravery in helping us to bring these offenders to justice.
“Throughout the case, we worked alongside the Rahab Project in Reading and it is only with their help that we were able to build confidence between the victim and police.
“This was a horrifying attack on a vulnerable woman and we worked tirelessly to help bring those responsible to justice. They now rightfully face a long time behind bars as punishment for their actions in September last year.â€
