Police have arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the body of a woman in a flat in Dibden Court, Honeywall, Stoke-on-Trent on Christmas Day morning. Staffordshire Police and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service were called at 10:30am on Thursday 25 December (2014) to the address and found a woman in her thirties collapsed in the flat. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, it was confirmed that the woman had died.
A detailed forensic examination of the scene is underway and the flat remains cordoned off whilst this detailed work takes place. Specially trained family liaison officers are working to trace family members of the woman to provide them with support and information about the investigation.
The male arrested will be questioned by detectives from the force’s criminal investigation department (CID) later. Â Supt Jane Hewitt from Staffordshire Police said; “We are working to support the family of the woman at this very tragic and difficult time and I urge people not to speculate about the incident and allow the detectives to establish the circumstances which led to the death of the woman.
