Detectives investigating the murder of two men following a suspicious house fire in Islington have today, Monday 5 January, arrested two more people:
A 37-year-old man [B] was arrested, today Monday 5 January on suspicion of murder. He is in custody at a north London police station.
A 44-year-old woman [C] was arrested, today, Monday 5 January on suspicion of obstructing police. She is in custody at an east London police station.
On, 4 January police arrested a 42-year-old woman [A] on suspicion of murder. She currently remains in custody at a north London police station pending further enquires.
A murder investigation has been launched in Islington after two men were found dead in a suspicious house fire.
Police were called by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) at 19:20hrs on Friday, 2 January, to the scene of a fire at Stelfox House, Penton Rise, WC1.
Officers attended and London Fire Brigade crews found two men inside the residential address. They were both pronounced dead at the scene. The first man is believed to be aged in his fifties; the second man is aged in his forties.
Their deaths are being treated as suspicious. The cause of the fire is under investigation by LFB and the Metropolitan Police.
Officers are in the process of informing next of kin. We await formal identification.
Post-mortem examinations will take place in due course.
An investigation has been launched under DCI Glen Lloyd of the Homicide and Major Crime Command. He said: “I would like to appeal to anyone in the Penton Rise area who has seen or heard anything unusual between 5-8pm to contact police immediately. Two men have died and my team are eager to hear from anyone who was in the area or passing by before or just after this fire started.
“If you were in the area at the time, you may well have witnessed what occurred or seen something that could assist our investigation.”
