Detectives have confirmed the death of an elderly woman in Norwich is being treated as murder.
It follows a Home Office post mortem held at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital this afternoon (Monday 23 February) which confirmed the victim died of injuries as a result of a sustained assault. The post mortem also revealed that she had been sexually assaulted.
The woman’s body was discovered after officers attended an address on The Avenues at about 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday 22 February). Officers had been attending the address in connection with another matter which police had been dealing with earlier in the day.
Shortly after 10am police were called to  over concerns for the safety of a man. The man was detained and taken to hospital for treatment.
The man, aged in his 20s, was later arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre where he remains.
A warrant for further detention has been obtained from Magistrates giving detectives extra time to question the man who was arrested.
