Two police officers have launched themselves into gruelling training regimes in preparation for the greatest challenge of their lives â€“ a 155-mile run in the scorching heat of the Sahara Desert.
Â Sgt Ricky Passam and Inspector Matt Snow are under no illusions aboutÂ the enormity of the challenge they’ve taken on.
The race they are training for in April next year â€“ the Marathon Des Sables (MdS) â€“ is described as “the toughest footrace on earth”.
That’s why they have a schedule of half-marathons, marathons, and ultra-marathons lined up to ensure they’re ready.
The MdS is a 155-mile run through the Sahara desert over a week.
Runners have to carry all their equipment, including food, with them and are only provided with water at checkpoints and a tent to sleep in at the end of each day.
