Detectives in Staffordshire have today charged a 34-year-old man with murder.
Officers yesterday launched a a murder investigation after a 55-year-old man died in hospital over the weekend after being assaulted last month.
Police attended at address in Bolberry Close in Lightwood, Stoke-on-Trent in the early hours of Saturday 28 March to investigate the report of a man being assaulted.
This resulted in the 55-year-old being taken to Royal Stoke hospital with head injuries.
A 34-year-old man was arrested and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Richard Jeffries, of Bolberry Close was remanded into custody when he appeared before magistrates on 30th March in connection with the assault Today, after working with Crown Prosecution Service, detectives have charged Richard Jeffries with Murder.
He will remain in custody in prison until he appears before magistrates.
