Police have made two arrests following an assault in Gateshead which has left a man in a critical condition.
At just before 3pm, on Saturday, May 2, police received a report from the ambulance service that a passer-by had found a man lying on the ground semi-conscious on Sunderland Road, in Gateshead.
Officers attended the scene where around the same time the man was found, four men were seen making off from the area.
The 41-year-old was taken to the RVI suffering from a head injury.
His condition is described as critical.
Police are investigating the incident as an assault.
As a result of enquiries, two men, aged 26 and 22, have been arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent.
They are currently helping police with enquiries.
