Police Scotland are renewing previous warnings about deception thefts targeting businesses across the Highlands after receiving two reports of ‘ringing the changes’ frauds at business premises in the Brora and Golspie areas on Monday 25 May and Tuesday 26 May 2015.
The fraud usually involves a group of people attending at various retail outlets and asking for sums of cash to be changed into notes of a smaller denomination. While doing this, they deliberately cause confusion so as to obtain more money from the retailer than was initially handed over.
Police would appeal for anyone with information regarding this type of fraud, or who sees any suspicious activity, to contact Police on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/.
No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court....
