That image was made up of Crimestoppers Central Office staff, and no, it isn’t part of the uniform requirements at the charity to come dressed as your favourite crime-fighter, but was in fact an opportunity for us to promote a very important day in the third sector calendar next week, known as ‘Giving Tuesday.’
So you’re wondering what Giving Tuesday is, right? Well, its an international day of giving that was started two years ago in the USA as a response to the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday – which are believed to be the two busiest shopping days in the lead up to Christmas.
This year, on Tuesday December 2nd, the UK launch Giving Tuesday for the first time, backed by hundreds of businesses and charities, as well as celebrities including Dame Helen Mirren and supermodel, Lily Cole.
Crimestoppers is jumping on the Giving Tuesday rollercoaster and as part of the day, we will be asking for supporters of the charity to ‘Give’ one of three things:
- Your Donation (Funds are always vital in supporting our charitable work)- Your Time (We have over 600 brilliant volunteers, come and join them)- Your Voice (Help spread the word and raise awareness of Crimestoppers through social media)
By ‘Giving’ one of the above, you will be helping us to continue the fight against crime in the UK, while it will also confirm that we staff were right to surrender our street cred by dressing up in silly costumes and sharing the image with the world of social media!
We shall be posting a number of blogs on Tuesday 2nd December, provided by people who have supported or worked with Crimestoppers, while we ask that you keep an eye on our Twitter account at @CrimestoppersUK as we will be posting content throughout the day between 8am and 8pm to ramp up interest in this unique day.
We’d love you to retweet our content and then tell us where in the UK you are retweeting from. This will give us a great idea of where our supporters are based. Remember, if you are interacting with us on social media, don’t forget the hashtag #BeACrimestopper.
If you wish to find out more about Giving Tuesday you can do so by visiting www.givingtuesday.org. In advance, we thank you for your support and we look forward to hearing from you on Giving Tuesday.
