Well... I can be honest and tell you I've never seen things so bad. Even those who have remained silent so far have now found their voices and the police service really is on the brink of collapse. Blame is being laid, divisions are appearing. If we let this go on: We might as well pack up and leave. The important thing is that we try. I have no real sway, no influence but, I do believe that if we pull together, just once, one last time then...at least we will be able to look ourselves in the mirror: Say that we have done something. I can't offer anything but a last call, maybe The Last Call...just a day of TLC to see what can be done. The end result? Who knows. But, I just won't sit back and watch us eat ourselves. It doesn't matter who you are; on Thursday 13/09/12 I could really use a hand and I need it with this: 1) A video message from real, serving police officers will be posted to YouTube. We need to get it viral...so: email, Facebook, twitter, blog links, whatever you can muster. 2) There is a petition that you need to take a look at: with 100,000 signatures it gets debated in the House of Commons. 3) MPs must be written to en masse. Email is easiest and the details easy to find...it also means that your letters can be posted to blogs for all to see Blogs like that of @Cate_a_Moore on Twitter where many voices share a space. Contact details for the 650 MPs can be found quickly on 'They Work For You'. A drip feed can be ignored, a flood cannot. This isn't just about policing, it's about the value of public service, about the danger of cuts... NHS, Fire Service, Probation, Prisons...families...everyone. Every single member of the public who use these services, who rely on them: If we pull together just once, outside of the usual methods, away from federations and unions; just as people who care...we may stand a chance. Together we might actually remind politicians of all parties a thing or two about what public service is. For me this isn't about pay and conditions; it's about side effects: how this will impact on the public I serve. I have no right to ask for your help; none whatsoever and, if you can email, tweet, Facebook, speak, text or blog; if you can help with any or all of the three things I propose... ...all I can offer is a cheeky smile and my personal thanks. In short, the odds of success are terrible but, though this might be a final challenge for me; it's one I'm happy to take on. Even if it fails, I will always be able hold my head high. 0800 hours Thursday 13/09/12 Until 0800 hours on Friday Just 24 hours Under the hash tag #TLC... ...it will start with a Tweet. JP.
