On becoming Home Secretary, Theresa May told senior officers she wanted to be crystal clear that the mission of the service was “to cut crime, no more and no less”.
Strangely enough, the policeman in the picture seems to have been able to help without a hat! Is he ‘unapproachable and aggressive’ in his black wicking shirt? Does anyone care except the most highly strung PCC candidates?
Flood rescue duties offer absolutely no chance of a ‘detection’, TIC, crime reduction statistic or RJ form, so the policeman shown above also risks losing his job for ‘poor performance’ under Winsor 2 reforms. Public safety and community cohesion duties, which can take more time than almost any other task, are completely unmeasured under the police performance framework. This is a signpost towards how the public are really regarded by the government.
The underpowered family saloon cars with their budget tyres and bolt-on second-rate IT which overheats and shuts down if you drive over a speed hump are particularly useless at time like these in a county like Ruralshire.
What a shame, that under a Conservative government of all things, police officers have to ignore the Home Secretary to do the job the public expect.
