Five police officers were mauled by a crazed dog which went on a frenzied half-hour rampage yesterday.
A specialist firearms officer eventually killed the dog with four shots to the head while unarmed colleagues pinned it to the pavement.
Four of the officers were still in hospital last night with serious injuries after the horrific attack.
Jenny Jones, the Green Party candidate for London mayor, speaking about the dog attack said:
“Calling in CO19 just seems such an expensive way to deal with a mad dog. Could they not have used a Taser?
A good question. Why do Met Police patrols not have TASER? Political pressure. Most of which is against giving TASER to, well, routine Met Police patrols.
Political pressure like this:
Jenny Jones, the Green Party candidate for London mayor, speaking about TASER on 14th March 2012.
“It risks turning the police into a paramilitary force. We are lucky to have policing by consent in this country, and this is a step on the wrong direction.”
So nice to know that with five police officers mauled by an attack dog, Jones is concerned with the cost.
Gadget Note: TASER cartridges retail in the US for just over $50 each. 50 shotgun cartridges can be purchased for £15. Did anyone else notice the bit in the second video posted by the Daily Mirror, where a response officer who is holding the dog down by the throat shouts over to a firearms officer who is kitting up “Can you get a f***ing move on please?”
