Chief constable of Tayside is to travel south later this year to fill vacancy left by ACPO Vice-President Tim Hollis.
The chief constable of Tayside Police is in line to land the same job at an English force, it has been confirmed.
Justine Curran (pictured) is set to become the chief constable of Humberside Police when CC Tim Hollis retires. It means she would become the first female chief constable ever to lead the force.
CC Curran, who has four years experience as a chief in Scotland, failed to secure a job in the new single Scottish service, which goes live in April this year.
Her selection, by Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, Matthew Grove, will now go before the area’s Police and Crime Panel for approval on February 15.
There had been questions raised when Police Scotland, the new title for the single Scottish service, chose to appoint only one woman to the new ACPOS ranks – and excluded CC Curran. It was suggested that she may have applied for a deputy chief constable role – of which there were four, but to no avail.
CC Curran was appointed chief constable for Tayside in August 2009 and she had previously served as deputy chief constable.
She said: “I am delighted to be put forward as the new chief constable of Humberside Police.
“I look forward to moving to the area with my family and getting down to work in this important and challenging role.â€
Speaking after the announcement, PCC Grove said: “I always said this would be the most significant decision I would make.
“I am delighted to have secured the services of an outstanding leader with a proven track record.
“Justine clearly brings sound experience as an existing chief constable, having worked in some extremely challenging areas of the country.â€
CC Curran was born in Sheffield and joined Greater Manchester Police in 1988. She served in various posts and later became chief inspector in Manchester city centre.
She then moved to Merseyside Police as superintendent, and in 2003 returned to GMP as divisional commander for north Manchester.
In 2007 she became an assistant chief at GMP, where she also took responsibility for Counter Terrorism.
PCC Grove said that he had had to choose from “three outstanding candidatesâ€.
CC Curran will take up her role in April 2013, subject to the confirmation hearing.
