Commander Christine Jones says the Metropolitan Police “is drawing on all of its skills and experience” to make sure that Baroness Thatcher’s funeral runs smoothly.
More than 4,000 officers from the Metropolitan Police, City of London Police and British Transport Police will be on duty for the funeral.
Cmdr Jones urged anyone planning to protest during the event to contact police beforehand.
“We will absolutely facilitate the right to peaceful protest,” she said. “We will not tolerate people who come to London with the intent of committing crime or causing violence, but those people are in the minority.”
She advised those planning to visit London to check their routes before setting off, and to leave plenty of time for their journeys, as some roads will be closed during the event.
