DC Jim Morrison
Detectives have launched a fresh appeal for information about the death of a colleague – exactly two decades after he was murdered while he was off duty in London
Metropolitan Police officer DC Jim Morrison was fatally stabbed in Montreal Place WC2 by a man he was attempting to arrest a man for a suspected bag theft.
Colleagues, friends and family of the detective will join together for a service today, Tuesday December 13, at a memorial stone at the site DC Morrison fell.
At the same time in the Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, where DC Morrison was laid to rest, his best friend and serving Metropolitan Police Sergeant Colin Geddes will lead five other colleagues and family at a graveside service.
Sgt Geddes said: “Jim and I met at Bow Street Station early in our service. We were best men at each other’s weddings. I had a lot of respect for him as a colleague.
“He had insatiable appetite for his work – his dedication to the job was second to none and he always put in that added extra for the community he lived and served in.”
DC Morrison, who remembered for his flair for dealing with street crime and his devotion to duty, left a young widow Victoria. There is still a £20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of his killer.
A fresh appeal for information in the case will be launched on the BBC Crimewatch programme, due to be broadcast on December 15 at 21:00 Hours.
DCI Amanda Hargreaves, who is leading the investigation into the murder, said: “DC Morrison was a talented young officer with a bright and promising future, which was taken away from him when he was brutally attacked.
“Over the years, officers have remained diligent in attempting to solve this case. Despite the passage of time, I believe there are people who still hold vital information about who is responsible for DC Morrison’s murder.”
