As much as any professionals police officers have to be physically, mentally and psychologically on top of their game and like most of us sometimes they don`t quite hit the 100% mark. A few misspoken or omitted words when in confrontation with a member of the public can have repercussions beyond the appreciation of either or both.
A miscreant can have a caution administered only upon an admission of guilt. CRB investigation for prospective employees will reveal any caution on a person`s record and that administrative “punishment” can lead to dire consequences unrealised at the time of acceptance.
A publication from the Ministry of Justice “Simple Cautions for Adult Offenders” published 13/04/2013 sets out the details of the cautioning of offenders. Section 3 pp13 + explains the procedures which must be adopted including informing the offender of the consequences of agreeing to be cautioned.
